Andrea Ho-Fatt Wang, DDS
Dentistry suits me perfectly because it’s an art and also very technical. I’ve always been good with my hands, and am passionate about helping others live healthy. I love educating patients on their oral health. I also enjoy showing patients what they had before and after we have treated them with intra-oral pictures. They get excited about the difference, and I know I’ve done my job well.
Education and Continuing Education
I went to dental school at the University of Western Ontario and graduated with honours in 2001. I also have an honours Biochemistry degree from McMaster University. I’ve always had a passion for learning and have consistently done more than 100hrs of continuing education each year since graduation. Some of my notable courses were in Occlusion and esthetics for Cosmetic Dentistry with the Dawson Academy, Implant restorations, advanced endodontics and I have my Laser certification. I’m also trained in Oral Moderate Sedation and our office has a Sedation Facility permit. Although I’m interested in all areas of dentistry, my true passion has been Orthodontics and Airway Health. I’ve taken thousands of hours of continuing education in these specific areas. I started in 2008 and completed the entire Rondeau Orthodontic course series. I became an Invisalign provider in 2010 and continue to learn with the Clearly Aligned and AACA community. This has allowed me to provide different orthodontic treatment options for making the perfect smile with airway health as the top priority. I’m strong believer that extractions in growing children put them at unnecessary risk for sleep disordered breathing in adulthood. This is why all my orthodontic treatment plans are strictly “non-extraction” with an emphasis on conservation of tooth structure. I’m a certified provider for both Healthy Start and Myobrace which are growth guided appliances for children. I’m a Gold Plus provider for Invisalign with experience in treating ages 6 to 70 with clear aligners. In 2017, I started my journey in dental Sleep Medicine with different residency programs including University of Toronto, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and Tufts University. After writing my dental Sleep Board exams in 2019, I received my Diplomate (highest credential for Sleep Medicine in dentistry) from the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. I continue to work closely with the local sleep physicians in Markham to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea in my community. My love of learning has now turned to a love of teaching. I lecture and teach my fellow dentists on OSA and Sleep Disordered Breathing and how we can help our patients in this area. I’m a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Academy of Clear Aligners, ASAP (Airway, Sleep and Pediatrics), American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, Canadian Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines and the Ontario Dental Association
In the Office
I love creating and maintaining beautiful smiles for an entire lifetime. My belief has always been that a healthy smile will be the most beautiful – naturally. We start seeing patients from the age of 6 months and even have patients who are over a 100 years old! We feel like our patients are an extension of our family. I love watching my patients grow up and hear what is going on in their lives. I have brought in other dental providers that complement my skill set so we can provide the very best treatment in all areas of dentistry all under 1 roof. Keeping up with changing technology is very important to me. When I opened this office in 2003, we were one of the first dental offices in Canada to be fully digital incorporating digital x-ray sensors. Since then, we have continually upgraded our technology for the benefit of our patients. Most recently, we have incorporated 2 Itero intraoral scanners which allow us to keep digital 3D scans that can be routinely updated to show us the changes in oral health.
Family Life
I was born and raised in North York. I met my husband, Jeffry Wang, at Western University when I was in dental school and he was in medical school. We got married soon after graduation and moved to Markham in 2004. Our 3 children were born at Markham Stouffville Hospital and enjoy being part of the Markham community. Nathan and Eric are my 2 older boys and Katey is my youngest daughter. Me, my 2 sisters and their families, and my parents all live in walking distance from each other in Unionville. Our newest addition to the family is our puppy Maggie – the sweetest happiest bernedoodle. In my limited free time, I enjoy keeping an active lifestyle of hiking, exercising and eating out with friends.
